What You Will See
Beginning at the Honokohau small boat harbor you may see some of Kona's oldest sea turtles or eagle rays swimming beneath the boats. After boarding you may see dolphins or whales as the boat cruises along the Kona coast. The rugged coastline passes by on the way to the Kealakekua bay snorkeling site. If the swell is large the waves crashing on the lava cliffs makes for impressive crashes of water shooting high into the air. Upon arrival at the Captain Cook snorkel tour site you'll see the white obeleisk of the monument marking the beginning of the massive cliffs rising to the far end of the bay. In the clear warm waters you will likely see yellow tangs, and other colorful reef fish along with the occasional eel and perhaps an octopus if you're guide can find one ghiding among the colorful corals. Sometimes we'll even see a reef shark! On the way back to Kona we will keep our eyes open for more whales and dolphins as well as the occasional shark or pilot whale. You never know what you may encounter in Kona's deeper waters!
